Introduction to Braces

Braces really are for the entire family. At this very minute, orthodontic treatment is being performed on people of virtually every age. Sure there are some differences between kids braces, teen braces and adult braces, but there are even more similarities. If people take a few moments to learn about braces and orthodontic treatment, the myths are dispelled and an excitement for the possibility of straight teeth is born.

Did you know that the kids should be referred to an orthodontist for an evaluation at age seven? Kids braces perform much better when they are started early and preceded by a period of interceptive orthodontics before active treatment. With interceptive orthodontics, the jaw can be moved into a more favorable position before braces are even applied.

Did you know that most teens actually think braces are cool?  Teen braces are now the norm rather than the exception and surveys show that teens think braces are pretty okay. Despite this view, there is still a lot of apprehension because of a fear of the unknown. Have your teenager read the article on Teen Braces. It provides an overview that should alleviate some of the trepidation associated with braces and orthodontic treatment.

Did you know that one in five patients treated by an orthodontist is an adult? Not only has the stigma of traditional metal adult braces begun to fade away, but the number of choices for discreet adult braces is increasing. Do you know the options for adult braces?

Regardless of age, there really is no wrong time for straight teeth. The process of braces and orthodontic treatment begins by first learning about the process!
